"Our mission is to educate the public on the value of trees and the need to properly select, plant and maintain them. This is accomplished by working with community groups with local tree planting projects and by providing informational materials and presentations."

Who are we

What is Global ReLeaf?
Global warming, urban heat islands, and the greenhouse effect are phrases which dominate the news. American Forests in an effort to address these issues created a program called Global ReLeaf. Each state was encouraged to develop a program based on this concept and tailor it to the needs of the residents. Thus, Global ReLeaf of Michigan, Inc. was created.

Global ReLeaf of Michigan is a grass roots, volunteer, 501(c)3 not for profit organization which challenges people everywhere, from citizens to state leaders to establish goals in:
•Expanding the area of forests, on lands where trees can provide many benefits, in both urban and rural settings.
•Assuring that all forests are maintained in as productive, healthy and fast growing condition as possible.
• Enacting effective legislation to address all of these issues and to research new technologies to address this crisis.
•Global ReLeaf of Michigan's emphasis is to plant trees throughout all communities. The addition of trees improves the environment, cools urban heat islands and beautifies our neighborhoods.

How to Get Involved
Many people from all walks of life are joining together - students, foresters, aborists, business owners, nursery people, conservation groups and concerned citizens by actively working with Global ReLeaf of Michigan to make a difference. Everyone in Michigan can get involved! There are four Global Releaf actions you can do right now that will make a difference:

•Plant and care for trees in your yard and your town. You'll find that a "greener" life is more beautiful, more energy efficient and you'll feel great doing your part of Global ReLeaf.
•Share your tree knowledge with your community. Every Michigan city has "missing trees" - trees yet to be planted or trees to be replaced. Support the national effort and its aggressive public policy campaign that addresses issues such as reforesting America, energy conservation and urban beautification with plant materials.
•Become a member of Global ReLeaf of Michigan Inc. Since we rely exclusively on volunteer efforts to achieve our objectives, we need your assistance in the areas of donated time, services, planting material and money. The majority of the money received goes directly into the purchase of trees. Financial contributions may be tax deductible.

How Global ReLeaf of Michigan will help with your project
Joint tree plantings are the focus of our activities. Plantings are scheduled in the spring and fall. Global ReLeaf of Michigan will help your group with site selection, arrange for the acquisition and delivery of the plant material, and provide technical assistance and instruction on the day of the planting. Residents are asked to "adopt" the trees for a period of two years. This commitment assures that the trees will be watered and protected during the transplant period. Joint tree plantings are a great way to get started. Get children involved in learning about trees and the effect they have on their environment. Neighborhoods and cities can start beautification projects with tree plantings. Or you can simply plant a tree in your own yard.
